Yes, the mannequin challenge! The trend has become so popular that even the most powerful man in the world, the president of the United States of America, Barack Obama has featured in one. His wife has featured in one too. Several celebrities and sport teams have also participated in the trend believed to have been started by students in Jacksonville, Florida USA on October 12, 2016.
However, eight months before the Jacksonville video, a Nollywood movie already featured the mannequin move.
Nigerian actor Femi Adebayo in January released a movie titled “Kodi Ologbon Aye” (meaning Kodi, the earth’s wise man), a comedy directed by his brother Tope Adebayo. The film also starred his father, veteran actor, Adebayo Salami.The producer, Femi Adebayo also played the lead role in the movie. his character was a mischievous village clown who found pleasure in disrupting the village peace.
A scene in the movie which lasted a little over a minute featured the scene which has now become an internet trend named the mannequin challenge.
Adebayo called attention to the scene recently on his Instagram page, saying “DID YOU KNOW THERE’S A #mannequinchallenge scene in the movie #kodiologbonayecomedy.. (There wasn’t anything called #mannequinchallenge when we shot this movie.)#yorubamovie #nollywoodmovies.”
