Buhari’s order on FX for food import is the right step forward – Shehu Sani
A former lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District at the Senate, Senator Shehu Sani has commended President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to stop providing foreign exchange for importation of food into the country.
Sani described the directive as the right step to move the nation’s agriculture sector forward.
The former lawmaker’s approval of the directive is contrary to Oby Ezekwesili’s verdict.
Ezekwesili had termed the directive as a blunder and described Buhari as a ‘completely out-of-touch’ leader.

In his reaction via his verified Twitter handle, Sani recommended that to make the policy work, there is a need for the government to direct the CBN to hand over agriculture financing to the Bank of Agriculture.
He also called for the protection of farmers from kidnappers.
Sani tweeted:
The President directive to the CBN to stop issuance of Forex for food importation is the right step forward. It will boost food production at home. Next is to hand over Agric financing to the Bank of Agriculture & not CBN & protect farmers from Kidnappers
