Nollywood comic actor, Ime Bishop Umoh popularly known as Okon has justified and given a clearer explanation to his comment on the arrest and sexual molestation of some women in Abuja by police officers.
WuzupNaija reports that no fewer than 70 ladies were arrested at different locations in the city on allegations they were sex workers.
Their arrest sparked outrage among Nigerians when it was reported that the women were allegedly molested by the police after their arrest.
Okon had taken to social media on Wednesday to post a video defending the actions of the policemen.
In the video, he had said the ladies who were molested were no better than the policemen.
He added that the policemen committed the crime of theft, not rape as claimed by the ladies. Okon also insisted that the ladies had no right to complain about what was done to them since they were sex workers.
His video sparked outrage among many Nigerians on social media, who lambasted the comedian for being insensitive.
The comedian has however released another video to clarify and also justify the claims in the previous video which has pitched him on the wrong side of Nigerians.
In the new video, Okon explained that prostitutes sell sex. Since it is their service, if you ‘take’ sex from a prostitute without paying for it, you have ‘stolen’ that commodity, and if you are an armed policeman then you have committed armed robbery, which according to him is worse than rape according to the society’s standard.
He said he never justified nor defended rape, adding that so many people misinterpreted his claims in the previous video.
In the video posted on his Instagram page, he captioned,
“It’s terrible when we give a dog a bad name in order to hang it. Who justifies rape? Obviously not me. I think lots of people have problems with hearing and comprehension. Listen well again to the video I made.
“I never defended the animals that raped the girls. I only tried to open up another perspective to the crime they committed and that is robbery which attracts in most cases, instant death penalty by jungle justice while also condemning commercial sex hawking! Hear, Listen, Understand or shut up!!”
