Police arrest two attempting to dump corpses in Taraba
The police in Taraba have arrested two people for attempting to dump two dead bodies around Kwambai/Jenuwa villages in Takum local government area of the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP. David Misal, on Thursday, said that the commissioner of police ordered that the two persons, who were arrested alongside the Toyota Hilux van they used to convey the corpses, be brought to Jalingo for investigation.
Misal said locals in the area alerted the police of a suspicious movement around the area leading to the arrest of the duo.
“We don’t have the details yet, but the suspects are on their to Jalingo on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Alkasim Sanusi.
“We will do our investigation upon their arrival to ascertain what exactly happened,” he said.
But a resident of Takum, Ande Rimanfeten, said that one of the suspects arrested by the police was an aide (Driver) to the Chairman of Takum Local Government Council, Hon. Shiban Tikari
Rimanfeten, who simply gave the name of the Chairman’s driver arrested by the police with the corpses as ‘Daddy’, urged security agencies to probe the matter well, adding that sweeping it under the carpet will generate tension in the area.
On while his driver and his Hilux van were in possession of two dead bodies in the middle of the night, Hon. Shiban Tikari said the council had donated the Van to Vigilante group personnel who are helping in keeping peace in the area.
“The two people killed were armed robbers who engaged our vigilante youths in a shoot out. In the process, two of the robbers were killed.
“For the past three weeks now, our vigilante personnel have been on a routine check to tackle kidnappers and yesterday they came in contact with armed robbers and killed two in the process.
“I was surprised that Kuteb people from Jenuwa came to the police station this morning that their people were killed, making it appear as if it was a communal crisis.
“But when they discovered that those killed were not Kuteb, they dispersed. We are doing our best to rid Takum of criminals and God is helping us,” he said.
