Report unfair trade, FCCPC tells Nigerians amid food price hike

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has said that it is aware of the rising cost of essential goods impact on consumers’ well-being and economic stability.

The commission stated that although they cannot directly control prices, they will ensure consumer fair market practices and fair pricing.

This was stated in response to a question asked on X, formerly Twitter, why food items were still expensive despite the reduced dollar rate.

They stated that they would not hesitate to invoke Section 17(s) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018 against any perpetrator of such acts prohibiting obnoxious trade practices and unscrupulous exploitation of consumers.

The response reads, “We encourage consumers to remain vigilant and report unfair trade practices to the FCCPC. Consumers can provide details, including the conduct, location of perpetrators, and other relevant information for investigation through contact@fccpc.gov.ng.”

FCCPC reiterated its commitment to promoting fair competition, protecting consumers, and fostering a regulated marketplace, urged citizens’ vigilance, and encouraged active participation in reporting violations.
