One person has died while three others sustained serious injuries in a road accident along the Coastal Road in Victoria Island, Lagos.
According to Channels Television, the crash occurred in the early hours of Friday and involved a grey Lexus Jeep 350.
LASTMA says vehicle lost control
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority said preliminary information indicated that the driver lost control of the vehicle. Then it crashed into a roadside pole and overturned.
“Preliminary security information indicated that the vehicle reportedly lost control, violently collided with a roadside pole and subsequently overturned. This resulted in three seriously injured victims and one fatality,” LASTMA said.
The agency’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, said officials monitoring traffic along the Coastal Road quickly moved to the scene.
Three victims rushed to hospital
LASTMA operatives secured the affected part of the road. They also worked with members of the public to rescue the injured occupants.
The three seriously injured victims were taken to Duck-Yard Hospital within the Military Zone for treatment.
“The incident was subsequently brought under control. Meanwhile, relevant emergency and security agencies were engaged to undertake the requisite rescue, investigative and safety procedures,” the agency said.
Vehicle removed from road
Security personnel from Victoria Island also provided support at the scene.
LASTMA officers later removed the damaged vehicle from the road to prevent another accident and restore normal traffic flow.
The agency said vehicular movement along the route was subsequently restored.

LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and urged motorists to exercise greater caution.
He warned that excessive speed, reckless driving and loss of vehicle control could have serious consequences for motorists and other road users.
