42 arrested for defaulting Bayelsa environmental exercise

Published

The Bayelsa State Environmental Sanitation Authority at the weekend arrested 42 persons for allegedly defaulting the agency’s law on sanitation day exercise.

The defaulters, 30 males and 12 females, during the official period of cleaning of the surroundings declared by the sanitation authority on Saturday.

The Chairman of BESA, Christopher Ewhrudjakpo, said some of the defaulters were apprehended for unauthorized movement, loitering, playing football, among others or while the sanitation exercise was ongoing.

“They will be arraigned before the magistrate court,” he said.

Ewhrudjakpo commended the large turn out of residents who participated in the cleaning exercise across the state.

He, however, frowned on the attitude of military personnel who disobey the law and move about during the period of sanitation.

“We met some military men and accosted them and told them it is important to obey the laws of the land. If they continue to disobey, what will the civilians do?

“We urged them to obey the law whenever the exercise is taking place. They should comply so that other citizens will do same,” Ewhrudjakpo said.
