African Democratic Congress chieftain Dino Melaye has told President Bola Tinubu and his family to prepare to leave the Presidential Villa. He predicts that the opposition party will defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress in the 2027 election.
According to The Punch, the former senator made the prediction during an interview with Arise TV on Monday. He argued that widespread dissatisfaction with the current administration would work in the ADC’s favour.
Melaye says Nigerians want change
Melaye said the opposition party’s strategy for defeating the APC was straightforward. Nigerians were increasingly dissatisfied with conditions in the country.
“The people are with us. The people are tired of maladministration,” he said.
He criticised the administration over borrowing, budget implementation, insecurity and economic hardship.
The former Kogi West senator also alleged that some government contracts awarded in previous budgets remained unpaid. This happened despite funds being borrowed to finance expenditure.
Hardship will influence 2027 vote — Melaye
Melaye argued that hunger, insecurity and other challenges had created a widening gap between the government and ordinary Nigerians.
He said citizens would eventually express their dissatisfaction through the ballot box when the presidential election is held.
Melaye also accused the administration of becoming disconnected from public concerns. He criticised what he described as an increasingly hostile political environment.
ADC eyes change of government
The former senator expressed confidence that the 2027 contest would result in a change at the federal level.
He urged Tinubu and those around him to begin preparing for the possibility of leaving the Presidential Villa.
Melaye left the Peoples Democratic Party in 2025 and joined the ADC. He did this after previously serving as a spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign.
He has since emerged as one of the opposition party’s most outspoken figures as political campaigning towards 2027 intensifies.
His prediction remains a partisan political claim, with the eventual outcome to be determined by voters during the election.
