The Independent National Electoral Commission in Akwa Ibom State has announced plans to open its portal for the Continuous Voter Registration exercise in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

Addressing journalists at a press conference in Uyo on Wednesday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Obo Effanga, encouraged residents to take advantage of the opportunity to register ahead of the polls.

Effanga stated that the CVR exercise would include physical registration across local government council headquarters in the state, starting from August 25.

He emphasized the need for those who had already initiated the registration process online to visit INEC offices at the state or local government level to complete their registration.

“It is the same process, INEC now has a portal where people can register as voters. You can begin the process and only visit our offices for data capturing,” he said. “The process will soon begin, it will handle transfer cases, misspelling of names, mistakes in address among others. You can begin from the portal at the comfort of your home.”

The REC also cautioned against multiple registrations, noting that individuals who lose their voter cards should request a reprint rather than attempting to register again. “In the case of card loss, the affected person should ask for reprinting, and not attempt to register twice,” he warned.
