At least 20 children have been confirmed dead following a tragic road accident involving a school bus in Uganda, according to local police authorities.
The crash happened while the bus was returning to the capital, Kampala, after a school field trip.
Police said the vehicle, which was carrying children, veered off the road under circumstances that have not yet been determined.
“The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which left the road, collided with a large rock along the side of the road and overturned,” police said on X.
Authorities also confirmed that one adult lost their life in the accident, while several other passengers sustained injuries.
Deadly road crashes remain a recurring problem in Uganda, with authorities and safety experts often linking the high number of accidents to poorly maintained roads and other infrastructure challenges.
