16-year-old Osasere Okundaye has made history after becoming the youngest Nigerian to achieve a chartered accountancy qualification from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, setting a new national record.

Minister of Youth Development Ayodele Olawande on Monday praised the teenager’s accomplishment, describing it as evidence of the impact of dedication, discipline, and determination.

Olawande said Okundaye represents “a shining example of the limitless potential of Nigerian youth,” adding that her success should encourage young Nigerians to pursue their ambitions with confidence and commitment.

The minister acknowledged the contributions of those who supported her journey, particularly her parents, teachers, and mentors, noting that their encouragement, sacrifices, and belief played an important role in helping her achieve the milestone.

He further stated that the achievement reinforces the ministry’s focus on creating opportunities that enable young Nigerians to develop their abilities, pursue their goals, and maximise their potential.

Okundaye’s accomplishment surpasses the previous record held by Jonathan Adewale, who became Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant in 2022 at the age of 17.

The ICAN qualification is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most challenging professional certifications, often requiring years of rigorous preparation and examination by graduates and experienced professionals. Achieving the feat at just 16 years old makes Okundaye’s milestone particularly remarkable.
