11 injured as rainstorm destroys properties in Niger

Rainstorm has caused destruction in Kutu town, headquarters of Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, destroying houses, public property, schools and injured people.

Other towns affected by the heavy wind that happened on Friday night in the local government including Gwada, Zumba, Erena, among other areas.

DAILY POST reports that the affected public properties include the Shiroro Local Government Education Authority Veterinary Hospital and General Hospital in the town.

Confirming the incident, Salis M Sabo, spokesperson Coalition of Shiroro Associations told newsmen that the windstorm carried away the rooves of 198 houses, 104 shops, four schools, public buildings and left about 11 persons injured.

Sabi said; ”In the history of the town, there has never been such a disastrous windstorm, which lasted for almost two hours.

He also explained that assessment of other adjoining towns such as Gwada, Zumba, Erena and other villages is ongoing in the council.

The coalition appeals to the State government through Niger State Emergency Management Agency, office of the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management and other relevant agencies to, as, matter of urgency come to the rescue of the affected people.
