A 10-year-old boy named Keith “KJ” Frierson lost his life after being shot by another boy of the same age following a bicycle race in a tragic incident in Foothill Farms, California.

The accused boy, described as a “sore loser,” allegedly retrieved a loaded gun from his father’s truck after losing the race, shooting KJ without uttering a word.

KJ’s mother, Brittani Frierson, recounted the harrowing details, expressing the devastating impact of the incident.

She had granted permission for KJ to ride the bike just 15 minutes before neighbors informed her of the tragedy. Ms. Frierson shared her grief, stating, “I screamed for hours after I saw my child on that ground, because I could just see that he had no chance.”

The 10-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of murder, while his father, Arkete Davis, 53, faced charges of possessing a stolen, loaded firearm in a vehicle, child endangerment, and being an accessory to a crime after the fact.

According to police reports, the boy found a loaded gun in his father’s truck, bragged about it, and proceeded to shoot KJ before seeking refuge in a nearby apartment. Davis allegedly attempted to hide the gun by discarding it in a nearby bin.

Sergeant Amar Gandhi of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office acknowledged the sorrowful nature of the situation, stating, “There’s nothing to add on our end. It’s a sad situation all around.”

Describing KJ, Ms. Frierson highlighted his kindness and positive qualities, noting that he often assisted older women in the neighborhood. Neighbors gathered for a vigil to remember KJ, expressing their condolences and emphasizing the impact of the tragedy on the community.

The incident has left the community in shock, with KJ being remembered as a generous, smart, and friendly boy.

Last year, he joined the Junior Football Mustangs, a youth American football team, and his passing was mourned by the team, stating, “He will truly be missed by all of your Mustangs family and friends.”
