Ten people were killed in a fatal road accident in Kambi village along Ilorin-Jebba Expressway in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State.
According to sources, the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday. It involved a white Toyota Hiace Commercial bus with registration number XC 157 SMK and a Ford Truck used for transporting logs of Wood.
The Commercial bus which took off from Minna, Niger State was said to be heading to the South with some of the passengers traveling for Sallah.
19 people including the driver were said to be involved in the accident out of which ten died instantly, one of the sources said.
The commercial bus driver was said to be speeding when it had a head-on collision with the truck, an eyewitness told The PUNCH.
The driver of the bus was said to be among the survivors of the accident.
He said that some people who sustained serious injuries have been taken to the hospital for treatment while the Corpse of those who lost their lives have been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital Mortuary.
When contacted, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Jonathan Owoade said the incident occurred in the wee hours of Friday.
He said, “The driver of the 18 passenger bus survived. They were coming from Minna going to Offa but rammed into a stationary log carrying truck which had broken down on the road.
“10 of them died instantly while the survivors including the driver have been taken to the hospital. The corpses have been deposited at the morgue of the UITH.”
