Tinubu set to launch projects at national fire academy
President Bola Tinubu is slated to illuminate the National Fire Academy on May 28th as he prepares to lead the groundbreaking ceremony for several projects at the institution.
This announcement came from the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, during an inspection of ongoing projects at the academy, which serves as the training arm of the Federal Fire Service.
Tunji-Ojo revealed that the objective of these new projects is to transform the academy into a world-class facility. This transformation aims to reduce the need for foreign training while also offering training opportunities to personnel from other countries, thereby retaining foreign exchange.
Among the projects to be inaugurated are a Clinic, Worship Centres, Props Centre, Sports Arena, Lecture Halls, Hostels, and others.
The minister expressed enthusiasm, stating, “What we are about to do here is arguably the best and most sophisticated fire academy in West Africa… We are erecting a modern fire academy that can be compared to the best you can get anywhere in the world.”
He emphasized the importance of the Fire Service, highlighting its role not only in combating fires but also in rescue operations during emergencies.
Tunji-Ojo stressed the need to harness the sector’s vast potential and ensure that it contributes significantly to securing lives and property.
Furthermore, the expansion project has received support from the Kwali Area Council, with Chairman Danladi Chiya confirming the decision to allocate more land for the academy’s growth.
