Olympics: Nigeria’s canoeist Bello, wrestler Agiomor crash out in quarters
Nigerian canoeist, Ayomide Emmanuel Bello, has been eliminated in the quarter-finals of the women’s Canoe Sprint 200m on Wednesday at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Bello narrowly missed the automatic semifinals spot after coming third in the single’s event with a race time of 47.326.
The 19-year-old who won two gold medals at the 2018 African Youth Games finished behind Germany’s Lisa Jahn (47.049) and Alena Nazdrova of Belarus
(46.950) who took the semifinal qualification spots as second and first, respectively.
Bello who began practising canoe sprint professionally in 2017 put up a good display worthy of commendation from the commentators in an event Nigeria seldom participate in.
Meanwhile, Wrestler, Ekerekeme Agiomor, was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Men’s freestyle 86kg event on Wednesday.
Agiomor was defeated 12(SUP) – 1 by Deepak Punia of India who progressed to the semifinal of the competition.
Punai won the fight by VSU1, i.e, victory by technical superiority – with point(s) scored by the opponent
