Published

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has successfully negotiated reduced prices on international flights with airlines operating within the country.

The announcement, made by the Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection at NCAA, Michael Achimugu, via his official X account on Thursday, brings relief to Nigerian travelers who have grappled with high international airfare costs in recent times.

Achimugu shared the positive news, stating, “After a year marked by elevated international airfare costs burdening Nigerian travelers, international airlines have collectively agreed to reduce their ticket prices.”

He mentioned that this achievement was the result of strategic negotiations led by Capt. Chris Najomo, the Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), during meetings held on February 12th and 13th.

“I am proud to announce that, after the meetings with international airlines on the 12th and 13th of February, all of the airlines – bar one, have reopened their low-inventory tickets for Nigerians to access lower ticket prices for international flights,” Achimugu revealed.

He acknowledged the swift intervention of Capt. Chris Najomo, stating, “Recall that most of these airlines had closed the low tickets to Nigerians for about a year, subjecting our citizens to only the highest possible airfares. But the swift intervention of Capt. Chris Najomo, DGCA, has eased the situation. More wins to come.”

This move is expected to alleviate the financial strain on Nigerian travelers, making international travel more accessible. The decision comes after Captain Chris Najomo had previously announced the formation of a high-level committee aimed at scrutinizing factors influencing international airfare prices, with the goal of reducing them.
