The Abia State chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council has elected Prince Onukwue of the Zenith Labour Party as its new State Chairman for the 2026–2028 tenure.
The election followed a closely contested process held in Umuahia.
The exercise took place at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission and marked the transition of leadership from the outgoing State Chairman, Nelson Uluocha of the Young Progressives Party.
Meanwhile, 17 of the 19 chairmen of registered political parties in the state took part in the election. The process was supervised by IPAC national representatives in collaboration with INEC officials.
Other officials elected during the exercise include Mrs. Victoria Akabuike of the Boot Party as Deputy Chairman and Larry Charles of the Action Peoples Party as State Secretary, among others.
The newly elected executives were sworn in immediately after the conclusion of voting.
In his acceptance speech, Onukwue thanked his colleagues for the trust placed in him. He pledged that IPAC under his leadership would support progressive policies in the state while offering objective criticism of the Abia State government.
The Zenith Labour Party had earlier recorded a major victory in the November 2, 2024 local government elections in Abia State, winning across the councils.
