The Zamfara State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress has constituted a new Executive Committee to steer the affairs of the party as preparations begin for the 2027 general elections.
The leadership emerged at a state delegates’ congress held in Gusau, the state capital, which drew a large turnout of delegates, party leaders, elders, and other stakeholders.
Proceedings at the congress were orderly and peaceful, with participants adhering to laid-down guidelines. Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alongside security personnel, were present to supervise the process and ensure compliance with electoral standards.
At the conclusion of the exercise, Alhaji Surajo Garba Mai Katako, a known associate of Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa, was elected as the state chairman of the party.
Party insiders revealed that the NDC has recorded a surge in membership across all 14 local government areas of Zamfara State, a development attributed to the recent defection of Senator Marafa to the party.
Marafa, who previously represented Zamfara Central in the Senate, is regarded as a significant force behind the party’s rising profile in the state as political activities gradually build toward the next election cycle.
