The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has sworn in the newly elected local government chairmen who emerged victorious in Saturday’s LG elections.

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party won all the chairmanship and councillorship seats in the election.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on Sunday afternoon after the state Independent Electoral Commission, led by its chairman Bala Aliyu Gusau, issued certificates of return to the winners.

During the event, Lawal praised ZASIEC for conducting a credible, free, and fair election. He also reaffirmed his commitment to local government autonomy, emphasizing the importance of empowering local governments to better serve their communities.

“I am a strong advocate of local government autonomy, and I am committed to ensuring that the local governments remain autonomous so they can be stronger and more effective in developing their areas,” he said.

He urged the new chairmen to work as a team and support his administration in achieving its seven-point agenda. “I urge you to form a formidable team and join my administration in working for the development of the state, especially in fulfilling my seven-point agenda,” the governor added.

Lawal also advised the chairmen to stay in their respective local governments to better understand and address the challenges facing their communities. “I want you to always remain in your domain and attend to the needs of your people,” he said.

The governor expressed gratitude to the people of Zamfara for their continued support and assured them of his dedication to building a prosperous state. “I want to thank the people for the continuous support and cooperation they have been giving to my administration in its quest for a prosperous Zamfara.

“I can assure you that I will do my very best to build a new state where every one of you will be proud of,” Governor Lawal added.
