Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of nine Community Protection Guards who were killed in an ambush by bandits on Monday in the Tsafe local government area.
The attack occurred at a checkpoint on the outskirts of Tsafe when a group of armed bandits launched a surprise attack on the security personnel.
Governor Lawal, in a statement from his spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, condemned the incident as a “barbaric act” carried out by bandits fleeing from ongoing military operations in the state.
“I received the unfortunate report of an ambush by bandits in Tsafe, during which nine of our brave Community Protection Guards were killed,” the governor said. He listed the names of the fallen guards as Nasiru Aliyu, Jabiru Hassan, Abdullahi Dangude, Bashar Bawa, Mu’azu Musa, Anas Dahiru, Anas Yakubu, Lawali Yunusa, and one other.
Governor Lawal praised the bravery of the guards and other security personnel, emphasizing their commitment to protecting the people of Zamfara. “The bandits’ ambush on our guards is a cowardly act, as they were dispersed and on the run due to sustained troop onslaught across the state,” he added.
The governor assured residents that the ongoing military efforts would continue until the bandits were completely defeated. He also extended his condolences to the families of the fallen guards, saying, “Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. My government is committed to providing all necessary support to the families of the frontline guards who lost their lives.”
Governor Lawal also wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the ambush.
