Zamfara Abduction: Are these the people Gumi wants government to offer amnesty?- Nigerians react

Nigerians have reacted to the latest abduction of 300 schoolgirls from the Government Girls Secondary School Jangebe in Talata-Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The abduction is coming barely two weeks after bandits wielding AK-47 and a rocket-propelled grenade (often abbreviated RPG) stormed the Science College, Kagara, in Niger State, killing student before abducting some other students and staff members.

Following the abduction, a popular Islamic scholar, Sheikh Abubakar Gumi has been in the news for negotiating with bandits who have been carrying out these heinous acts, calling on the Federal Government to give bandits “blanket amnesty” and at the same time accusing the military or extra-judicial killings.

His move has however attracted numerous backlashes from the public, including a former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, who opined that Gumi should lead the military to the hideouts of these bandits.

However, reacting to the latest abduction via Twitter on Friday, Nigerians have questioned the call for Gumi’s amnesty call for the bandits after another strike.

Some also took time to vent their frustration at the recent kidnappings in the country over the last few months in places such as Zamfara, Katsina,  as well as Niger States.

One user lamented about the level of insecurity in the country amidst a series of abduction, killings, ethnic clashes as well as terrorism by the Boko Haram insurgents.

@NotJustSalmanPR said, “Every day in Nigeria if its not Killings, its kidnapping. Its seems these Bandits have come to replace Boko Haram because their consistency is shocking. A whole 300 schoolgirls kidnapped in Zamfara. And Nigerian intelligence can’t locate where a whole 300 people are being kept.”

@the_beardedsina commented thus, “I’m just wondering how easy it is to kidnap 300 people in Zamfara. You will need at least 60 cars and at least 80 people to do that. How is it that the Forces didn’t detect this and 300 girls vanished And Oh is Bandit the subtle way of saying, terrorists? This is so pathetic.”

According to @VickyShegzy, the bandits will milk the government of another ransom with the latest abduction,   “Sinzu, the Zamfara bandits are asking you to wire their Aza,” the tweet read.

@MFaarees_ another wondered if there is an actual leader in the country as a result of a series of kidnappings, saying, “300 school girls have been abducted yesterday night in Zamfara State, Kagara boys haven’t been released yet GSS Jangebe girls, this thing has to stop wllh, what’s so difficult in ending this sh!t neh.?? do we even have leaders in this country.??”

@OgbeniDipo  added, “Zamfara today. Niger yesterday. Katsina the other day. Taraba few days ago. Ibadan weeks ago. Ogun and Ondo too. It use to be one week one drama now it’s one day one drama.

“Criminal bandits have abducted over 300 schoolgirls at Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in Talata-Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State. These are the people Shiek Gumi and his likes want us to call sweet and sexy names and wants government to offer amnesty to.”

@ayemojubar also commented – “You fed m*nsters with bl*od now you want to rehabilitate them, it can’t work. And that’s where Gumi got it wrong. 300 students can be packed anytime in buses and left with no trace? This doesn’t make any sense.”
