Legendary South African singer, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, has reacted to reports of her deportation from Uganda.
Chaka Chaka was billed to headline a concert in the East African nation before she was deported by Ugandan authorities on Tuesday.
The Uganda Police Force in a video posted via its verified Twitter handle @PoliceUg said the legendary singer was deported for having an incorrect visa.
However, some local media in the country have linked Chaka Chaka’s ordeal to her public support for opposition leader Bobi Wine who is at loggerheads with President Yoweri Museveni
The 75-year-old president is seeking re-election for a record sixth term in 2021.
Chaka Chaka was said to have referred to Bobi as Uganda’s Nelson Mandela while in Kampala last year.
She shared a video via her Twitter handle @YvonneChakaX2 about an hour ago and said she is still in the country but chose not to perform.
“I took the decision this evening not to appear at Enkuka because there were just too many things I could not understand,” she said
“I was not deported, not arrested, not captured.”
