The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 23 suspects, including armed robbers, hoodlums, and a kidnapper, during intensified security operations across several states over the Christmas period. Dangerous weapons, including a fabricated AK-47 rifle, were recovered as part of efforts to ensure public safety during the festive season.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the arrests were in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for all commands to adopt robust anti-crime measures throughout the holiday season.

In Lagos, police officers responded swiftly to a distress call at Safejo, Amukoko, around 1 a.m. on Christmas Day.

The call reported that a group of armed hoodlums was attacking fun seekers in the area. Police intervention led to the arrest of three suspects: Emmanuel Okoli (20), Ogunde Tejiri (20), and Emmanuel Orji (18).

Weapons used in the attacks were recovered, and a manhunt is ongoing for other gang members who fled the scene.

In Kaduna, operatives from the Saminaka Division arrested Sule Muhammad, a 25-year-old suspected member of a kidnapping gang.

The arrest, which occurred at about 8 p.m. on Christmas Day, resulted in the recovery of a fabricated AK-47 rifle. Muhammad reportedly confessed to involvement in several kidnappings and is assisting the police in locating other members of the gang and their hideouts.

Similar security operations in Delta, Ogun, Katsina, Benue, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Imo State led to the apprehension of more suspects.

The successes were attributed to a combination of intelligence gathering, rapid response, and proactive policing strategies.

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun commended the officers for their commitment and vigilance during the festive season.

“Our officers have demonstrated exemplary dedication to safeguarding lives and property during this joyful period,” he stated.

The IGP also urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains unwavering in its mission to ensure a secure environment where citizens can celebrate without fear,” he added.
