The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 128 suspected hoodlums and recovered dangerous weapons during raids on black spots across the country as part of efforts to ensure safety during the festive season.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Tuesday. He said the operations followed the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to improve security during the Yuletide.

Adejobi said, “As the festive season approaches, the Nigeria Police Force remains vigilant and proactive, ramping up efforts to ensure the safety and security of all citizens. Through intensified operations, the Force has achieved significant successes in raids, arrests, and recoveries.”

In Lagos, police operatives carried out raids on December 14, 2024, targeting criminal hideouts in the Isolo area. During the operation, 43 suspects were arrested. Recovered items included large amounts of cannabis, daggers, swords, and fetish objects.

On December 15, 2024, in Isheri Osun, Lagos State, the police also arrested a suspect, Charles Orji, while he was attempting to steal a Toyota Hilux vehicle. Further investigation revealed seven different Toyota car keys in his possession, suggesting he may be part of a larger car theft operation.

The police are also maintaining tight security in other states, including Kaduna, Zamfara, Taraba, Edo, Delta, Benue, and Niger, to prevent crime and protect lives and property.

“As we enter the final stretch of the festivities, the Nigeria Police Force assures citizens of its commitment to deterring crime and protecting lives and property,” Adejobi said.

He urged Nigerians to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to the police, adding that the Force is fully prepared to ensure a peaceful and safe holiday season for all.
