As the Christmas and New Year festivities approach, the Plateau State Police Command has assured residents of the state about the security of lives and property.

In a bid to ensure a peaceful celebration, the Commissioner of Police, Julius Alawari, has implemented security measures and announced the ban on the operation of tricycles (Keke NAPEP) and the use of fireworks during the holiday season.

The police command, through its Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, issued a statement explaining the purpose of the heightened security presence, emphasizing that it is solely to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free celebration without intimidating the public.

Alawari stated, “In a bid to ensure utmost security and the safety of Plateau State and its residents, the Commissioner of Police, CP Okoro Alawari, has emplaced adequate security measures in all parts of the state to forestall any breakdown of law and order.”

He further emphasized the ban on the use of tricycles and motorcycles (Okada) within the Jos and Bukuru metropolis, as the ban remains in force.

This move is aimed at enhancing security and preventing any potential disturbances during the festive season.

Additionally, the Commissioner imposed a ban on the trading and use of fireworks, knockouts, firecrackers, and all other pyrotechnics within the state.

The decision was made to avoid disturbances, anxiety, and fear among the public and to curb opportunities for criminal activities.

The CP urged residents to be vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime and criminality.

He specifically called on traditional and religious leaders, parents, and guardians to monitor their followers, children, and wards, discouraging them from using fireworks during the festive season.

The Commissioner concluded by warning that anyone found violating these bans would face severe consequences in accordance with existing laws.
