May Edochie, the estranged wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, has taken fresh legal steps against her former lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, and her former brother-in-law’s ex-wife, Yinka Theisen, accusing them of defamation, cyberbullying, and harassment.
Through her legal team, Graylaw Partners, May issued a cease-and-desist notice to Ugwuonye, alleging that he repeatedly published damaging posts about her on social media. According to the letter, his actions went beyond defamation and amounted to ridicule, harassment, and malicious attacks that threatened her safety.
“These posts are a calculated assault on our client’s reputation and have further imperiled her safety through malicious threats and false allegations,” the letter read.
She accused Ugwuonye of creating multiple online platforms, including WhatsApp groups, to spread false claims against her, while also unlawfully sharing her private information in exchange for money. The letter further claimed that Ugwuonye once presented himself as her lawyer despite not being in proper legal standing.
“By so doing, you deceitfully exploited our client’s unawareness, held yourself out in a fraudulent manner, and are now making illegitimate profit from her privileged information in addition to your defamatory publications,” her lawyers stated.
May is demanding the immediate removal of all defamatory posts, a public apology across all his platforms, and ₦1 billion in damages.
In a separate letter, May also moved against Yinka Theisen, accusing her of cyberstalking, cyberbullying, gaslighting, public shaming, and defamation. Through her lawyers, she demanded that Yinka withdraw her alleged defamatory posts, publish a clear apology and retraction, and pay ₦500 million in damages.
The lawsuits quickly stirred reactions on social media. Rita Edochie hailed May, writing, “They haven’t seen anything yet.”
Joy Makun, wife of comedian Lanre Makun, added, “Enough is enough.” Actress Anita Joseph reacted in her dialect: “Osikwa no part two. Alumeee, marry lee.”
One iam_nekkyb commented, “She waited to be mentally ready. God got you, Queen.” Another, distinguished_chiefmatron, wrote, “Good move.”
A user named giftoblack added, “I love this particular one, Yinka dey cráze,” while beautifully_b said, “Yinka did too much to defame you, Good one, Queen May.”
This comes after weeks of public tension between May and Yinka. In August, Yinka accused May’s fans of writing a petition to her employers to get her fired. She described their move as absurd and warned May to “leave her alone,” insisting she was not afraid and would start legal proceedings if the attacks continued.
Yinka, who married Yul’s elder brother Linc in June 2025, openly expressed support for Yul and his second wife Judy Austin, a move that sparked backlash from May’s supporters. Linc later distanced himself from Yinka’s actions, saying he did not approve of her public attacks and stressing that “it is better to be alone and at peace than to be in a union filled with landmines.”
