Popular streaming site, YouTube, has announced that disgraced R&B singer, R Kelly, has been banned on its platform for life.
WuzupNigeria reported that the ‘Spirit’ singer faces life imprisonment after he was found guilty of sexually grooming women, boys and girls for decades on September 27 by a New York court.
Kelly, 54, was convicted by a federal jury on all nine counts including racketeering and violations of the Mann Act, which prohibits the transport of ‘any woman or girl’ across state lines for any ‘immoral purpose.’
As such, YouTube has removed Kelly’s official channel as well as all official content (music videos) relating to the ‘Storm Is Over’ singer over the severity of his sex crimes.
“We can confirm that we have terminated two channels linked to R Kelly in accordance with our creator responsibility guidelines,” a YouTube spokesperson told Reuters.
However, UK Metro reports that Kelly’s songs will still be available on YouTube Music, the company’s audio streaming service.
Subsequently, videos uploaded by other users that feature R Kelly’s music will continue to be available.
