A momentary disruption occurred on Tuesday during a political gathering in Adamawa State when Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri was interrupted by some members of the audience while speaking to supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ganye Local Government Area.

Ganye shares a boundary with Jada Local Government Area, the hometown of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Both councils, along with Mayo-Belwa and Toungo, constitute a federal constituency within the Adamawa South Senatorial District.

Political tension has recently surfaced between supporters of Governor Fintiri and those aligned with Atiku, reportedly following a breakdown in relations between the two leaders.

Atiku has since defected from the PDP to the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress.

During his address at the Ganye stop of the state tour, the governor was forced to halt his speech after a group of youths in the crowd interrupted him, chanting in Hausa: “Ba a yin, ba mu a yin,” an expression interpreted as dissent.

Governor Fintiri responded immediately in Hausa, saying: “Kai ma ba a yin ka. Ba ka yi; dama wa ya ce ka yi?” which translates to, “You too, we are not with you. Who even asked you to be with us?”

“Nobody can claim a monopoly of hooliganism; it is a cap anyone interested can wear. We will not allow disrespect to our leaders,” he added.

As the jeering continued, the governor directed the disc jockey to play music, briefly dancing before exiting the stage, according to Daily Trust.

Earlier in his speech, Fintiri explained that the ongoing state tour was intended to connect with residents at the grassroots, evaluate the performance of his administration and that of local government council chairmen, and identify areas for improved service delivery.

He further stated that the PDP remained firmly in charge of the state and in tune with the aspirations of the people, assuring residents of continued democratic dividends.

He called on voters to support the party’s candidates in the local government elections scheduled for June 2026.

“Our local government elections are slated for June, and we shall win in all the 226 wards and the 21 councils,” he said. “Some critics use social media to abuse us as a government, but I ignore them as a responsible government committed to delivering dividends of democracy to you, my people.”

According to the governor, the tour is also meant to commission completed local government projects, conduct on-the-spot evaluations of council chairmen, and engage stakeholders through interactive town hall sessions to exchange ideas and address identified gaps.
