Nigerian rapper and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has declared that anyone who takes offence at his criticism of bad governance is part of the country’s problems, insisting his advocacy is not aimed at any individual or political party.
The singer made the remark while addressing whether his outspoken stance on governance had affected business opportunities or partnerships during an interview on Arise 360.
According to Falz, a group that approached his management for a potential partnership expressed reservations about his comments on Nigeria’s political climate. He said the development did not bother him, maintaining that he would rather forgo such opportunities than compromise on speaking the truth.
Falz stressed that his messages focus on governance and societal issues rather than targeting politicians or political parties by name.
“The way I look at that is it was never meant for me. If you feel in any way attacked or feel like what I’m doing is in any way directed at you. Then maybe I don’t even want to be there, maybe I shouldn’t even be there, you know, but what I’m saying is the truth.
“I’m not single handedly picking at anyone to antagonize. What I’m speaking to is the practice and not even really the people in particular. I’ve mentioned no name, I’ve mentioned no political part or whatever. So, in fact what they do say when speaking with my manager was something political but this is absolutely zero affiliation. I’m just talking about what is going on. If you have a problem with them, then you are the problem”, the singer said.
