Your mental health not attached to family members – LGBT activist, Bisi Alimi
Controversial LGBT activist, Bisi Alimi, has taken to social media platform, Instagram, to weigh in on the conundrum of having to constantly seek validation from family at the expense of one’s mental health.
Alimi disclosed that the best decision anyone could make is to ensure that their mental health is stable, adding that Nigerians should learn to cut off some relationships if they are certain it will not afford them peace of mind.
The 46-year-old further opined that people need to come to terms that they don’t need validation from anyone to live their lives even if these people are special to them.
He said;
“I know many will find this hard, but cutting off your family for your mental health is the best gift you can gift yourself. Do it now or they will eat amala at your burial and spray your money on musician for faji!
You are the best thing to happen to you, stop looking for acceptance where there is none”
Bisi Alimi who is also a public speaker, blog writer and HIV/LGBT advocate gained international attention when he became the first Nigerian to come out on television.
Alimi has also been included in the “Independent on Sunday” Pink List of most influential LGBT people in Britain in 2011, 2012, 2013 peaking at number 90 in 2012.
He was rated third on the 100 most influential Non-White Atheist and Freethinkers in Britain and Northern Ireland.
