Football enthusiasts in Nigeria have lambasted and cursed Cüneyt Çakır, the referee that officiated during Nigeria – Argentina group D clash in St. Petersburg Stadium on Tuesday.

Angry Nigerians went to the Instagram page of the referee to vent their frustrations on him for not awarding a second penalty when it was due.

With the game tied at 1-1, Nigeria players surrounded the referee when it appeared that Marcos Rojo handballed the ball in his own penalty area in the second half of the clash.

 

The match official used VAR but decided against awarding the spot-kick, much to the dismay of Nigerians.

Apparently, many  Nigerians were not happy with his verdict as some even cursed him and his generations for denying us the golden opportunity.
