Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has dismissed speculation and concerns surrounding the reported interest of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, in contesting the Kogi Central Senatorial seat in 2027.

She noted that Bello’s potential entry into the race is not a source of worry, adding that she remains willing to seek re-election should he decide to run.

In a statement issued through her Special Adviser on Media, Mike Idoko, she said, “We don’t see it as a threat. In fact, we are happy that he wants to contest. We are waiting for them.”

Akpoti-Uduaghan currently serves as the senator representing Kogi Central, having secured victory in the 2023 elections after a protracted legal battle.

The legal practitioner and former governorship aspirant made history as the first woman to occupy the senatorial position for the district.

It was gathered that Bello recently hinted at his interest during a courtesy visit to the palace of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, where he held discussions with traditional rulers, clerics, and other community stakeholders.

Footage from the visit was subsequently shared on his verified Facebook page last week.

Also present at the event was Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, alongside other prominent political actors.

Reports from the gathering indicated that party leaders and supporters appealed to Bello to represent Kogi Central in the National Assembly in 2027.
