Thousands of social media users reported being unable to access X, formerly known as Twitter, on Monday, with outage-tracking platform Downdetector recording a significant spike in complaints.
According to Downdetector, more than 3,000 users reported issues with the platform. Over half of the reports cited problems with the mobile app, while one in five users experienced difficulties accessing the main feed, and 16 percent reported issues with the website.
The disruptions began around 1:05 p.m. on February 16, with users across multiple regions reporting login failures, timelines not updating, and slow or inaccessible desktop sites.
One user commenting on Downdetector said, “birdapp is held together with duct tape and sticks, if it weren’t for the fact that so many anime artists are still here, i wouldve jumped the boat by now.” Another added, “No notifications showing on web. Delayed replies and follows for last 72 hours.”
In the United States, 67 percent of users faced issues logging in through the website, while 18 percent reported app-related problems. Outages were also heavily reported in parts of India, particularly in cities such as Chandigarh, Delhi, Jaipur, and Mumbai, where users flagged feed updates, server applications, and app access as the main issues.
X has not issued an official statement regarding the cause of the outage. Disruptions on the platform are often intermittent or regional, and no further details have been provided at this time.
