Former champion of the World Wrestling Entertainment, Ettore Ewen professionally known as Big E, was rushed to the intensive care unit of an American hospital last night after a neck injury.

Big E, who was heavily wrapped in neck braces and writhing in pain on his bed, confirmed that he suffered a broken neck during a match at WWE SmackDown.

The fan favourite, who remains one of the company’s most popular superstars, revealed the extent of his injury after he landed on his head during a belly to belly suplex from English wrestler, Ridge Holland.

The accident happened during a match pitting Big E and Kofi Kingston against Holland and Sheamus, and after the fall he was stretchered out of the arena during a commercial break.

Big E subsequently took to Twitter to share a video from his hospital bed while wearing a neck brace.

He also appreciated his fans across the globe everyone for their ‘concern’ and support.

‘I can’t thank all of you beautiful people enough for all of your concern and your messages, it’s very heartwarming. I can move all my digits. You see that, that’s nice. That’s always a good thing.

‘Strength feels fine, but unfortunately right now they tell me my neck is broken, so there’s that.

‘Once again, thank you everybody, I’m going to be alright. I’ll be good. Don’t worry. Go to sleep. Don’t worry about old me, but for real, thank you and I appreciate all of you,’ he tweeted.

As of the time of reporting this story, WWE management is yet to issue a statement on the injury.

However, Becky Lynch, one of the wrestling company’s social media handlers retweeted messages from E’s fellow superstars.

‘One of the best humans in the world. I’m hoping you’ve been keeping it a secret that you have wolverine-esque healing powers. Thinking of you. Love you E,’ she tweeted.
