One Rhoda Omorogie, also known as Mama Bobo has been arrested by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons for her role in trafficking of young girls from Benin to Europe.
The 45-year-old nurse, an indigene of Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State, was nabbed by the operatives of NAPTIP at her residence located at No. 65 Osayande St. off Upper Sakponda Road, Benin City.
Omorogie, described as a notorious trafficker, had been in hiding since June 16 following the arrest of one of her gang members, Monday Ugbo, and rescue of three victims as she is presently in NAPTIP’s custody for interrogation, a statement signed by Head of Press and Public Relations, NAPTIP, Mr Josiah Emerole revealed.
Emerole said the woman has also been linked to the recruitment of the three victims that were rescued in Benin at the weekend.
Ugbo who led to the arrest of Omorogie was nabbed by NAPTIP operatives at his residence located at number 72 Osayande street, Upper Sakponba Road, Benin City, Edo. He was arrested in the process of receiving a registration fee of N50,000 which he had demanded from a prospective victim. He was also preparing to make the victims swear an oath by a river.
Director-General of NAPTIP, Mrs Julie Oka-Donli described it as disheartening to see women involved in the disgusting trade in human beings. She urged young girls and their families to be careful in order not to fall victim of trafficking.
