A woman has been found dead in her home at the Federal Housing Authority, Maitama, Abuja, in an incident that has left residents of the highbrow area in shock.
The deceased was identified as Hajiya Fanna Mohd Abare.
She was said to have been unresponsive for about two days before her body was discovered in a decomposed condition on December 17 at approximately 5:00 p.m.
The discovery was reportedly made by her sister, Hajiya Aisha Mongo, who alerted others after finding her unresponsive.
According to sources, the door to the room where the deceased was found was locked from the inside and had to be forced open before her body was discovered.
Police detectives were immediately dispatched to the scene. Due to the advanced stage of decomposition and public health concerns, the Abuja Environmental Health Department was contacted, after which the body was evacuated and later buried at the Gudu Cemetery.
Police sources said there was no immediate indication of foul play, adding that investigations are still ongoing to formally establish the cause of death.
