A woman died after a night fire broke out on Agbaakin Street, behind Testing Ground, Iwo Road in Ibadan on Monday.
The Oyo State Fire Service confirmed the incident on Tuesday in a statement issued by its chairman, Maroof Akinwande.
Akinwande said the fire started after a lighted charcoal cooking pot was left unattended. He explained that the heat ignited items around it, leading to a blaze that spread through two rooms in a 12 room building.
He said, “The fire emergency came in at 20:18 hours on Monday, December 8, 2025. When our team arrived, two rooms on the top floor were already burning. One female victim was found dead, while two male occupants were rescued alive.”
He added, Only the two rooms were affected. The rest of the building and properties worth millions of naira were saved. The operation was handled with support from the Federal Fire Service.
In a separate incident on Tuesday, a fire affected the Agric Business Development Agency at Total Garden in Ibadan.
Akinwande said the agency received a call from Mr Akinyinka, who reported that the office building was on fire.
He said, “The report came in at 09:20 hours on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. Our officers, led by ACFS Oyeniyi Taofeek, moved to the scene immediately.”
Akinwande explained that the fire started from electrical sparks inside a solar inverter control board on the upper floor.
He said, Our quick response stopped the fire from spreading into a major disaster. Portable fire extinguishers were used during the operation. No one was injured, and properties worth millions of naira were saved.
Akinwande advised residents to use proper cables and safe electrical materials during installation to avoid fire outbreaks.
