A 36-year-old Brit, Nicola Thomas, claims she did not know she was pregnant until her daughter Ellis, 14, helped her to deliver the new born in the early hours of the morning on March 15.

Nicola said she didn’t know she was pregnant until she woke to use the bathroom and thereafter, gave birth in the middle of the night.

Nicola had earlier gone to bed that night after experiencing some discomfort, which she believed to be her period that she had throughout her surprise pregnancy.

The mother took some paracetamol and continued with some household chores before going to sleep, WALES ONLINE REPORTS.

Things later took an unexpected turn when her three-year-old daughter, Blayke, woke her up demanding to use the bathroom at 3am on March 15.

It was only when she started to push that it dawned on her that she was in labour

She said: “I just put my hands down there and felt the baby’s head.”

Nicola then had to ask Blayke to wake her 14-year-old sister Ellis in order to help deliver the baby.

Nicola added; “She delivered the baby, checked the cord wasn’t wrapped around her neck. I’m hoping she’ll be a midwife now when she’s older.”

Despite Nicola’s hopes for her eldest’s future, she said Ellis was too shocked and disgusted by the experience to ever repeat the situation but successfully delivered her new sister Baylee-Rae who weighed in at 6lb 15oz.

An ambulance immediately arrived at the home where the paramedics also shared their disbelief at the surprise birth.

Nicola who was unaware of her pregnancy and so did not attend pre-natal scans earlier later had a five-day stint in hospital, completing all necessary checks, mother and baby are both healthy at home adjusting to their new life.

Nicola exclaimed: “I just had no idea. With the other two (pregnancies) I was so unwell – I had morning sickness, I was just sick so much with the first two, and this time nothing. It’s just nuts it is.”
