Jada Pollock, manager and partner to Nigerian music star Ayodeji ‘Wizkid’ Balogun, has opened up about the challenges she faces balancing motherhood and her career.
In a recent interview featured in BET’s Queens of Music documentary, Jada shared how she manages her demanding career while raising children. A clip from the documentary showed her recounting an experience after giving birth.
“I had my son on a Saturday, and I was having conference calls and meetings in the hospital because we were in the middle of putting Wiz’s album out,” she said.
Jada, who is expecting her third child, also expressed frustration about being labelled as just a “baby mama,” despite her significant contributions to Wizkid’s career and African music as a whole.
She recalled a moment after Wizkid won a Grammy for *Brown Skin Girl*. “I wrote a statement about how far African music has come. They put that statement out, and the caption was Wizkid’s baby mama,” Jada said.
She explained that this label often undermines her achievements as an entrepreneur and music manager. “The narrative isn’t seen as you’re an entrepreneur, hardworking, businesswoman. I’m kind of more titled as Wizkid’s baby mama,” she said.
Jada emphasized that while she is proud to be a mother, she is also a manager who has helped build an enduring legacy for Wizkid. “Not only am I a mother, but I’ve been able to be a manager as well and help to build a great legacy. The result and the history of what I’ve done tell it all,” she added.
Jada’s statements have sparked discussions online, with many fans and industry observers acknowledging her impact on Wizkid’s success and the growth of African music globally.
