Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, shed light on the agreement he brokered with the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Abuja chapter, addressing the ongoing strike by primary school teachers in the capital.
During a meeting with FCT graded chiefs and Area Council Chairmen in Abuja on Wednesday, Wike responded to concerns raised by the Chairman of the FCT Traditional Council, Dr Adamu Baba Yunusa.
Yunusa brought attention to the plight of the striking staff of the FCT Area Council, prompting Wike to reveal the resolution: “The same thing with NULGE. FCTA has taken over 40 percent, let them pay 60 percent.
In the next three, four months, we would have finished paying; they were all happy.”
Wike outlined that the agreement entails FCTA offsetting 40 percent of the debts owed by the Area Councils, to be paid on a monthly basis.
The remaining 60 percent is expected to be covered by the Area Councils.
The Minister expressed optimism about the arrangement, emphasizing that it would lead to the resolution of the financial challenges within the specified timeframe.
