Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has condemned what he called misleading campaign strategies, following the conclusion of the FCT Area Council elections.
Wike spoke on Sunday after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.
He stated that the election outcomes reflected the genuine political preferences of residents in the nation’s capital.
The minister emphasized that voters made decisions based on performance rather than publicity stunts.
According to Wike, the polls clearly indicated which party currently enjoys the confidence of citizens and which one occupies the opposition role.
Official results showed that the All Progressives Congress won five Area Councils, while the Peoples Democratic Party secured only one.
Reacting to the outcome, Wike said:
“This election has further exposed the hypocrisy of people who go about buying corn and groundnuts from roadside sellers for the purpose of a campaign just to deceive Nigerians.
“The residents of FCT demonstrated that they cannot be deceived by emergency democrats, who have chosen not to see anything good in our country and its government.”
He added that voters in the Federal Capital Territory have become more politically aware and are no longer influenced by symbolic gestures or staged appearances.
Wike also commended the conduct of the elections, describing it as evidence of the growing maturity of Nigeria’s democratic process and the willingness of citizens to hold leaders accountable.
Furthermore, the minister highlighted that the ruling party’s performance in the FCT demonstrates that government policies and development initiatives are being noticed and appreciated by residents.
