The academic and public service community has been thrown into grief following the death of Hajiya Hadiza Attahiru Jega, wife of former Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, and ex-Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega.
Her death was officially announced by Bayero University through a statement shared on its social media platforms.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. With total submission to the will of Allah, we announce the passing of Hajiya Hadiza Attahiru Jega,” the university stated, conveying its profound sadness over the loss.
Her passing brings to a close a life marked by commitment to education, family, and service, creating a deep vacuum within both academic and public service communities.
The university disclosed that the Janazah prayer for the deceased will be held immediately after Zuhr at the National Mosque in Abuja on Sunday, April 5, 2026.
It also urged members of the public, colleagues, and sympathisers to attend the prayer and honour the memory of the late matriarch.
In its message, the institution offered prayers for her soul and comfort for the bereaved family during the mourning period. “May Allah grant her Aljannatul Firdaus and forgive her shortcomings.
May He also grant the family the strength and patience to bear this loss. Ameen,” the statement added, emphasizing faith and perseverance in times of grief.
Hajiya Hadiza Attahiru Jega is remembered not only as the wife of a distinguished academic and former electoral chief but also as a devoted mother, mentor, and respected community figure.
