Why we increased tuition fee in Ondo universities – Akeredolu
Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has said his administration was committed to the development of education of the state.
The governor said tuitions being paid in the three state-owned universities, that is, the Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko, the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo and the Ondo State University of Science and Technology Okitipupa, were the least paid varsities in the South-West,
Akeredolu said this at an interactive programme, he featured on Ondo State Radiovision Corporation, on Sunday evening which climaxed the third anniversary of his administration.
He, however, noted that there might be a reduction of the fees of the institutions if the financial status of the state improved
He said,
“We increased the tuition out of necessity. If we have money, there is no need for us to charge a kobo. My challenge is this, bring a tuition fee in any state owned-university in the South-West that is lower than what we are charging, and we will reduce our tuition.
“We are managing three universities and one polytechnic. The polytechnic workers were owed by the last administration. But, we will look at this when we have money. These things will be dynamic. Not that we can’t reduce it but that is if our financial status is improved”.
“Today, we charge the least to train doctors at the University of Medical Sciences. We charge the least across the country.”
