Media personality, Toke Makinwa, has shared her thoughts on why she believes many men are not skilled at lying, sparking fresh conversations about relationships and honesty.

She made the remarks during the latest episode of MENtality with Ebuka, hosted by media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.

During the discussion, Makinwa argued that many men wrongly assume that delivering a lie with confidence is enough to make it believable, provided the truth never comes to light.

According to her, the flaw lies in their failure to carefully think through the stories they tell.

“This is what I’ve always said from time immemorial. I say this to my guy friends a lot. Men are not that great at liars. They think, ‘If I tell you this, it can become your truth if you never find out the other side.’”

She further claimed that women can often detect dishonesty because men tend to contradict themselves over time. Makinwa said inconsistencies usually emerge when the same question is asked weeks later, exposing gaps in their earlier accounts.

“The problem with a man is that men don’t even think about it. They lie like we’re stupid. They don’t even think about it. You always know when they’re lying.”

Drawing a comparison, the broadcaster said women are more likely to consider every possible outcome before telling a lie, making their stories more consistent.

“If you ask the same man in the next three weeks, he will say something different. But a woman, before she tells you that lie, it’s actually low-key disrespectful because she has thought about it.”
