Nigerian music sensation, Adekunle Kosoko, popularly known as Adekunle Gold, has set the record straight regarding his decision to braid his hair.

Contrary to speculations that the unique style was a strategic branding move, the artist revealed that his motive was simply to explore a new facet of his identity and try something different.

The revelation came during his appearance as a guest on MTV Base Africa’s program, Touching Base, where he engaged in a candid conversation with host and actress Susan Pwajok. In the midst of their discussion, Adekunle Gold elaborated on the origins of his distinctive hairdo.

Clarifying the misconception, he stated, “There was no plan for it [my braided hairstyle] to be like a brand. In 2019, my hair was growing. Remember when I had that punk. And I was like, let me even try a new side of me. Let me even try to grow this hair and then make it. And I have really nice core pattern, whatever you guys called it. Core texture [laughs]. But, yeah. I just decided to grow it and it looks good on me.”

His admission dispels any notion that his braided hair was part of a calculated marketing strategy. Instead, Adekunle Gold’s choice was rooted in the desire to explore his personal style and embrace change.
