Why i may dump PDP for APC – Atiku’s aide Bwala

Published

A spokesperson for former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 elections, Daniel Bwala, has announced the possibility of defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress to support the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Responding to reporters’ questions after a closed-door meeting with President Tinubu at the State House in Abuja, Bwala stated, “APC is a party. President Bola Tinubu is my motivation; if supporting him will take me to APC, so be it. I told him today that I am committing to play my part in supporting your administration, and I have no apologies to anybody.”

Bwala, known for being a vocal critic of the APC and the Tinubu government, had previously emphasized the need for opposition parties to form a strong coalition to challenge the APC in the 2027 general elections.

Commending President Tinubu’s actions, Bwala highlighted the suspension of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, stating, “some of his (Tinubu’s) Ministers that were allegedly reported to have committed infractions, instead of protecting them, he asked that the law should have its own course and suspended somebody without wasting time. That, to me, is impressive because it’s about the people.”

Regarding the recent announcement of a 60 percent reduction in travel entourages for the Presidency and MDAs, Bwala commented, “There has been this outcry that the government is bloated. Yesterday, he introduced a policy that reduced the cost of governance and today, he told me it is just the beginning.”

He added that President Tinubu assured him that more cost-cutting measures are underway.

Bwala also emphasized that his support for President Tinubu is based on policy decisions and not personal grudges.
