Why I joined ADC – Suswam

Former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, has revealed the reasons behind his decision to join the African Democratic Congress, describing the party as a credible and people-driven platform capable of redefining Nigeria’s opposition politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Suswam made this known during a meeting with elders of the Peoples Democratic Party at the Makurdi residence of Terngu Tsegba, Chairman of the Benue State Steering Committee of the National Coalition Movement.

The gathering, which included five representatives from each of Benue’s 23 local government areas, was held in anticipation of the official unveiling of the ADC in the state.

Explaining his defection, Suswam said his move to the ADC was driven by the urgent need for a people-centered alternative capable of mounting a strong challenge against the ruling All Progressives Congress.

“In the same way PDP was handed to the local people, the ADC is hereby given to the people for full ownership. It is now their platform,” he declared.

He emphasized that the ADC presents a unique opportunity to rebuild the opposition through inclusive participation and grassroots ownership. Suswam cautioned against political imposition, urging leaders to allow ordinary citizens to shape the emerging political structure.

The former governor also called on members of the political class to revive the passion and unity that once powered the PDP to electoral victories, noting that the same spirit must now energize the ADC.

“Joining the ADC is a matter of choice and not by coercion,” Suswam stressed.
