Nigerian music star Burna Boy has finally spoken out about a long-standing fan theory linking his unshaved armpits to spiritual powers—drawing parallels with the Biblical story of Samson, whose strength was said to lie in his hair.

Over the years, fans have circulated photos and videos of the African Giant at concerts and public appearances, often noting his visibly unshaven underarms.

This detail, while seemingly mundane, has sparked bizarre theories online, with some attributing his international success to supernatural forces said to reside in his body hair.

The speculation reached new heights when a video of Burna Boy shaving his armpit went viral, triggering a wave of amused reactions from fans. Many joked about whether he was “cutting off his powers,” while others reignited the narrative around voodoo and mysticism.

In a recent sit-down with Apple Music, Burna Boy addressed the topic head-on when asked about the biggest misconceptions people have about him.

“One is that I don’t like to shave my armpits. People think it’s like Samson in the Bible — that my power is in my hair. In Nigeria, you hear crazy things. Some people even claim it’s voodoo, that my power is in my armpits [laughs]. I don’t even know how to explain it. It’s just some dumb sh*t that’s going on. I even tried to find out if it’s even possible,” he said.

While he dismissed the claims with humor, his comments highlight the lengths to which fans can go when mythologizing celebrities.
