Nigerian gospel singer, Victoria Orenze, has addressed the ongoing debate around gospel musicians receiving payment for church performances, firmly stating that she does not charge to minister.
In a shared video, the ‘I Get Backing’ crooner explained that her decision stems from a divine directive.
“The Lord told me not to charge for what He has freely given to me,” she said, affirming her commitment to using her gifts in service to God without attaching financial demands.
Orenze also elaborated on how she manages her music ministry financially.
She revealed that she compensates her team through income earned from digital streaming platforms. She emphasized the importance of instilling the right mindset in her band, stating that she does not want them to develop a habit of billing churches or individuals for ministry.
“I don’t want my team to have the mindset of going out to bill people,” she said, adding that doing so could shift their focus from spiritual service to monetary gain.
She concluded by warning against the dangers of materialism in ministry, asserting that it is impossible to love money and serve God wholeheartedly. “You can’t love money and serve God. You have to choose a side,” she said.
